Bagno Lido

Story

How it started

In the golden season of seaside tourism in Viareggio, when the definition of "Pearl of the Tyrrhenian" was coined, the Bagno Lido by Attilio Barsanti immediately distinguished itself among the most elegant and popular beaches in the world.

Three reasons concurred to distinguish it:

  • Its location in the Marco Polo area, to the west and far away, that is, the area where the first establishments that had started the seaside tourism of Viareggio were built in the mid-nineteenth century
  • The elegance of its wooden structure, the facade developed parallel to the sea from the middle of Piazza Maria Luisa to the space currently occupied by the Prince of Piedmont
  • Lastly and above all the clientele choice, made up of the most beautiful names in high society and famous artists

Bagno Lido

In fact, the Viareggio Prize was born right under the umbrellas of Bagno Lido in August 1929 on the initiative of Leonida Repaci and his many artist friends, who considered themselves at home at Bagno Lido

Il fascino

Even when the restructuring of the bathing establishments in the area took place on the initiative of the regime and the bathroom had to move to make way for the Prince, the skilful management of the Barsanti family managed to keep intact the charm and appeal of the establishment for its famous historical customers. , who continued to frequent him assiduously.

So even after the war, as Giancarlo Fusco tells us, "la cesta", that is the square space at the top of the Lido establishment, saw the desire to start again on the part of the new generations, who in the summer of Viareggio and the sound of old and new melodies began to enjoy life again.
